Shepard (EGC1) is the largest natural gas-fired power plant in Alberta. It is located in southeast Calgary, has a maximum capability higher than any other generating asset listed by the AESO (868 MW) and was commissioned in 2015. It's comprised of two heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs) which capture the waste heat from two gas turbine generators (GTGs); this waste heat then powers a single steam turbine generator (STG). The Shepard Energy Centre is jointly owned by ENMAX and Capital Power Corporation.
